What's in the template

Shipment costs (freight, duties, insurance, fees) and up to 30 lines: SKU, quantity, unit price, line value, share of invoice, allocated extra cost and landed cost per unit.

White cells are inputs. Green cells are formulas, so don't type over them. Sample rows are included so you can see how it works. Delete them and add your own.

How to use it

  1. Enter freight, duties, insurance and any broker or bank fees for the shipment.
  2. List each SKU with quantity and the supplier's unit price.
  3. Read landed cost per unit and update your cost per item in Shopify.
  4. Use landed cost, not supplier price, when you check margins.
  5. If one product is very bulky, allocate freight by weight or volume instead.

The math

Line share = line value ÷ total invoice value
Landed cost per unit = (line value + line share × extra costs) ÷ quantity

FAQ

Should freight be split by value or by weight?

By value is simplest and fine when products are similar in size. If some products are much heavier or bulkier for their price, split freight by weight or volume.

Where do I put landed cost in Shopify?

In the product variant's Cost per item field, so Shopify's profit reports use the true cost.
