What is Perfect order rate?

Perfect order rate is the percentage of orders that are delivered complete, on time, undamaged, and with accurate paperwork, with no errors at any step.

For a small Shopify store, the perfect order rate is a check on how well your whole fulfillment chain works together, not just one supplier or one shipment. A low rate means customers are getting wrong items, late deliveries, or damaged goods, which leads to returns, refunds, and bad reviews even if your sales numbers look fine.

Track it by reviewing a batch of orders each month and counting how many had zero problems from order placement to delivery. If the rate drops, look at each stage separately: picking errors, carrier delays, packaging damage, or wrong invoices, so you fix the actual weak point instead of guessing.

Formula

Perfect order rate = (orders delivered complete, on time, undamaged, and correctly invoiced / total orders) x 100

Example

A candle store ships 200 orders in a month. 190 arrive on time and complete. Of those, 4 have a damaged candle and 2 have the wrong invoice attached. That leaves 184 perfect orders. Perfect order rate = 184 / 200 x 100 = 92 percent.

Common mistakes

  • Only counting on-time delivery and ignoring damage or paperwork errors.
  • Measuring at the supplier level only, missing errors that happen during your own picking and packing.
  • Using too small a sample size, so one bad week skews the whole rate.

Perfect order rate and SteadyShelf

SteadyShelf helps keep the inbound side of this clean by tracking order-by dates and supplier lead times so stock arrives before you run out, but it does not track delivery accuracy or damage to customer orders.

FAQ

What counts as a perfect order?

An order with no errors at any stage: the right items, correct quantity, on-time delivery, no damage, and accurate paperwork like invoices or packing slips.

Why is perfect order rate useful if I already track late shipments separately?

Because an order can be on time but still wrong, damaged, or missing paperwork. Tracking lateness alone hides those other problems, and perfect order rate catches all of them in one number.
